Little Penguin Merlot - 75

Purchased the Little Penguin Merlot on-sale at "Food 4 Less" for $3.99, I later saw at another store for $6.99. For the 3.99 it was a good buy but unfortunately it was not a best buy. Fruity aroma but it had a very dry taste for a merlot and not very much length. I had a good cabernet afterwards and the Little Penguin Merlot really made me appreciate the cab that much more. If you find this wine for under $5 bucks it is a good buy.

General Thoughts

Wine drinking should be fun, the ratings I am giving to these wines are my opinion and my opinion only. I do my ratings using a checklist and I try to be consistent.

But I also know that the time of day, the food you are eating and the people you are with will effect the ratings.

Barefoot Merlot --- 79

I bought a bottle of Barefoot Merlot at the local "Food 4 Less" for $4.99.
This wine has value at less than 5 bucks a bottle, I noticed some berry aromas but it is not very powerful. Light tannins and the label on the bottle did suggest "hints of anise" which I did pick up on. The biggest plus for this wine was the flavor/ taste which was agreeable, the biggest drawback was the lack of aroma. Overall it is drinkable and I rate it 79/100.

Merlot

I like Merlot and I am not ashamed to say it. Yes it is not deep and complex but it is tasty. So screw you Miles.
